The House
3 years ago we completely renovated the house,
it is light & spacious with lots of original features and feels both modern and very french at the same time.
Upstairs:
In all the 3 bedrooms the comfortable beds all have new mattresses,
quality linens and summer duvets. Extra blankets and throws are available
during winter months and there are radiators in all of the rooms.
All the bedrooms have windows with views, the rear bedroom overlooks our beautiful
rambling gardens and neighbouring chateau grounds. The two front bedrooms
overlooking the pretty village of Méritein.
Shower room:
The walk-in shower room has a large modern shower system, spotlights, tiling
throughout and a unique pebble floor created from local stone. It also has
a heated towel rail, modern washbasin and W.C. A separate babybath is available for younger guests
Downstairs:
The Traditional kitchen is very spacious and easily accommodates a big family or group of friends.
It has fitted cupboards, white ceramic butler sink and family-sized double gas oven with gas hob.
There is a fridge and plenty of worksurfaces to create delicious meals.
The original oak farmhouse table sits in the centre of the room with chairs for all.
A comprehensive selection of crockery, cutlery, and glassware for 6 people is provided & the kitchen is well
stocked with all the utensils, cookware and general paraphenalia that an enthusiastic cook requires.
We also include a few extra items such as a 'Senseo' coffee machine, scales, food processor,
liquidiser and pasta machine and some cookbooks - should you need extra inspiration !
The fireplace houses a wood burning 'Godin' stove ,
which creates a really cosy atmosphere during the cooler months and¬Ý
there is a dry woodstore in the garden with lots of kindling and everything you need to get it going.
Utility Room:
In the separate utility room which leads onto the terrace and garden, there is a washing machine, dishwasher,
sink and fridge-freezer. An ironing board, laundry basket and other laundry items are also provided.
Next to the kitchen is the downstairs cloakroom with W.C. and washbasin.
Lounge:
With double french windows, with a view of the outside terrace and the garden beyond, this is the room to
relax in. It has a 3 seater sofa and two arm chairs and with ADSL TV, Wi-Fi internet access, ipod dock, DVD
and CD player, you will never be short of entertainment, whether it be keeping up with the latest sports
results, music videos, researching areas to visit in the region or simply keeping in touch with family &
friends.
If reading is your passion there is a well stocked bookcase, with plenty of novels, guide books and information
about the area, and magazines about life in france.
There is another very efficient woodburning stove in here which makes the lounge really cosy.
The Garden and Terrace:
One of the best features of this property is the garden. Its big enough for the whole family to explore and enjoy.
Whether you prefer to relax in the hammock, lounge about in a deckchair with a book, play darts or, run around playng badminton you won't
get in each others way.
This house used to be the gatehouse to the chateau next door-which at the moment sits empty, so we are able to walk freely in its grounds.
If you are
lucky to see them, red squirrels, small deer, birds and other wildlife wander into our garden and most days at about 5pm you can watch the
local shepherd grazing his flock of local breed 'Brebis' sheep, on his way home.
The main woodland style garden has a wide expanse of green grass surrounded by colourful mixed borders, rambling wisteria,
wonderful flowering shrubs like hibiscus, lavatera and jasmine and spectacular trees, one of which a giant 200 year old
Magnolia grandiflora. Spring and summer flowering bulbs mingle with climbers like clematis and plumbago and summer favourites,
red geraniums and cornflowers tumble out of pots around the terrace.
There is an organic kitchen garden where we try to grow different varieties of fruit & veg each year.
Usually there are fresh salad leaves, vegetables, herbs and soft fruits, which you are welcome to try - subject to availability!
